DAILY RATES
Tracking - $300 / day
Mixing - $200 / day
I charge a daily rate rather than an hourly rate. A "day," in my experience, usually begins in the early afternoon and ends in the hours sometime after midnight, either when we've reached the end of our rope or our ears stop talking to us coherently. We can, of course, begin and end earlier, but musicians tend to be night owls, so... There is a time during this block when we take a food break... usually an hour or two, or more if needed. Sometimes inspiration strikes at the 11th hour (or later!) so there is no set end time.
Mixing is an intensive experience. For most projects you can factor on one mix taking between 2 and 4 hours, at minimum. Ideally I prefer to spend the good part of one day on one mix, but that is not always feasible due to budget. Non-attended mixing sessions are great for small budgets without a time constraint as the "day" can be broken up and mixes can be left up on the board overnight to be revisited with fresh ears.
That said, sometimes there is not a need for a full day, so...
HOURLY RATES
Tracking - $40 / hour up to one day's fee.
Mixing - $30 / hour up to one day's fee.
For example, if we're tracking on an hourly rate, and we hit 7 hours, it is now a day rate at $300. Same for mixing, at 7 hours it becomes $200, and it is considered a full day.
Starting at 7 days a project rate will be negotiated. It is always preferable to work this way if it is in your budget as we will be able to offer more time for less money. This will usually include some free tracking or attended mix time as well as non-attended mix work, either first pass or remix.
